Large Retailer – Direct Wire PPA Expansion

Large-Scale Solar and Storage Opportunity

Challenge:

A large national retailer has already maximised its available roof space with on-site PPAs and is now working with Export Energy to explore direct wire PPA options. The goal is to further decarbonise operations by sourcing additional renewable energy directly from nearby generation sites. Key challenges include finding suitable projects within close proximity to operational sites and ensuring cost-effectiveness while navigating grid and permitting complexities.

Our Approach:

We are conducting detailed site assessments to identify viable nearby renewable energy projects (such as solar and wind farms) that can connect via direct wire infrastructure. Alongside working with developers and grid operators to assess feasibility, pricing, and regulatory requirements, we are also actively collaborating with developers to identify suitable land for new green energy assets. Where appropriate, we are exploring the acquisition and development of land to create bespoke renewable solutions tailored to the retailer’s long-term energy needs.

Status:

Several promising projects have been shortlisted near key retail locations. We are progressing through technical and commercial due diligence, with negotiations expected to advance in 2025. This initiative is set to significantly expand the retailer’s renewable energy footprint beyond rooftop installations, through both existing and newly developed renewable assets.
