Industrial Gases Producer – Strategic PPA Sourcing

Renewable Strategy for Major Industrial Company

Challenge:

A leading UK-based industrial gases producer, with high energy intensity across its operations, is forecasting a need for over 1 TWh of renewable energy by 2030. The client requires low-cost, unsubsidised green energy to maintain competitiveness while meeting stringent ESG and net-zero targets. Their priority is securing reliable, long-term renewable energy that offers both price certainty and commercial viability in a volatile market.

Our Approach:

Export Energy worked closely with the client to map out a phased renewable procurement strategy. We conducted a full market assessment and identified scalable PPA opportunities—focusing on large-scale, unsubsidised renewable assets such as solar and wind projects capable of delivering competitive pricing. We engaged with developers to explore innovative commercial structures, including options to integrate battery storage to enhance grid stability and potential flexibility in delivery. Risk management, contract robustness, and alignment with the client’s long-term goals were core to our advisory process.

Status:

The strategy has been approved, and we are actively sourcing suitable PPA opportunities. Initial discussions are underway with major UK developers, with contract negotiations expected to progress in 2025. The client is positioned to secure a significant renewable energy supply that aligns with both their cost requirements and sustainability objectives.
